A native Chicagoan, I spent the past 12 years living in Greater Washington and then Washington, DC. For seven years I lived in the US's national capital and loved it. The 04-05 year brought about many changes and transitions, and I decided to capitalize on the opportunity and add one more: I fulfilled my childhood dream of making aliyah/moving to Israel on September 7, 2005.
I moved from one national capital to another, Jerusalem. However, this time I went for the full lifestyle change. I live in government housing, an "Absorption Centre", where new immigrants can live in basic accomodations in an isolated neighborhood with weird roommates for close to no money. Starting out my new life without much savings, living off the dole (an immigration perk regardless of living quarters) in subsidized housing seemed like the perfect solution to minimizing expenses. I have since learned that I am paying the balance of my rent and living expenses in aggravation. Government housing is not easy.
This blog started as mass emails to friends and family regarding my latest adventures living in Israel. In a global society where citizens typically do not choose to leave their comfortable lifestyles for a country that can still be considered developing and at war with its neighbors, I have oodles of adventures to share.
