As a budding politician, such conflict of interest finances would certainly come back to haunt you!
You handled this excellently! Now you just have to have a press release written and sent out by your PR consultant (I assume you have one; otherwise, get one, you cannot afford to make a move without one). The vote-getting features of this story are abundant (new olim, low socio-economi people, cleanliness, animals, green, Jerusalem, etc etc). The PR will also raise the value of your constituents' property. The consultant's fee is clearly a good expense.
BTW, if these people would not have taken the job, you surely could have called your PR consultant - they deal with this kind of c**p all the time.
