    FOUND: A Decent Dance Studio!
And so, I think my whining blogs about bad/mediocre dance studios in J-m is over.  Hooray for all of us!

The classes I chose have excellent teachers, as dancers and teachers.  Their classes are organized in the classic fashion, of warm up, series and routines, moving across the floor, and personally I wish they would do even less choreography.  But, it's definitely a manageable amount.

I found the dance studio through a work buddy who has been dancing Modern since childhood.  I was a little suspicious that I would be satisfied with this studio, b.c it's the shortage of quality, amateur classes that I've been bemoaning.  I gave them a try.  Currenty, I go to Beginner's Modern once a week, and Ballet on alternate weeks.  (Book club meets on the oth Wed nights.)  Although, I will stop going to Ballet once the spring semester starts and my teaching schedule changes.  The Beginner's Modern class seems to have been a good move for me.  The class gets a little slow at times, but by switching dance styles my search for the elusive, medium-level class is less urgent.

They're also really not into jazz in Israel.  I took a drop-in jazz class and her choreography was the same as the Modern teacher's choreography!  They dance in the same troupe, but I would expect something different from a class that professes to be a different dance style.  Nothing is like Joy of Motion in DC, so it's important to adjust one's expectations.

Th studio is reasonably well-run and less than 15 min walking from my home.  It's one spacious room and the teacher takes attendance and collects payment.  It's annoying b.c there should be someone else who can do that.  This system shortens the length of classes :(  But, they have drop-in style classes, don't take wads of money from you up front, and don't cancel classes all the time.  How progressive.

So, for anyone looking a decent studio near the center of town, give me a shout.  For those of you who thought you could not make aliyah, or at least live in J-m due to my endless searching, there is hope!
